Richard Laney
" In order to put meaning back into our lives, we should recognize illusions for what they are, and we should reach out and touch the fabric of reality. I used to try to figure out precisely what I was seeing all the time, until I discovered that I didn't need to. If the thing is true, why there it is." ― Walker Evans
Richard Laney became fascinated with photography in the late 1970s. For the past 45 years, he has obsessively shot all aspects of his life. Although he has never worked as a professional photographer, he quickly admits that his "real" job is merely the funding mechanism that supports his photography.

Although he was a dedicated Nikon film shooter for decades, Richard now shoots primarily on Leica digital rangefinders and medium format 6x6 and 6x7 film cameras. Most of the time, his lens is aimed at his wife, children or grandchildren - unless he is traveling.

" I had this notion of what I called a democratic way of looking around, that nothing was more or less important. Often people ask what I'm photographing, which is a hard question to answer. And the best that I've come up with is I just say: Life today." ― William Eggleston
